Joan Crawford - Biografia

 

Joan Crawford - Lucille Fay Le Sueur

Nació el 23 de marzo de 1908 en San Antonio, Texas.

Hija de Thomas Le Sueur, que abandonó la familia antes de su nacimiento. Su madre, Anna Bell, de origen sueco, contrajo matrimonio en segundas nupcias con Henry Cassin, empresario de teatro. Se dice que ella no era una actriz; era una estrella.

 

Sus inicios fueron como bailarina, pasando después al teatro y por fin al cine mudo, aunque no interpretó ningún papel como protagonista hasta 1925. A lo largo de su carrera, intervino en más de setenta películas, tales como Gran Hotel (1932), de Edmund Goulding, Rain (La lluvia, 1932), de Lewis Milestone, No más mujeres (1935), de Edward H. Griffith y George Cukor, Mujeres (1939), de George Cukor, Alma en suplicio (1945), de Michael Curtiz, con la que ganaría un Oscar, Johnny Guitar (1953), de Nicholas Ray, Hojas de otoño (1956), y ¿Qué fue de Baby Jane? (1962), las dos de Robert Aldrich.

 

En 1962 publicaron su autobiografía, Retrato de Joan.

En 1979 apareció Mamá querida, una despiadada biografía escrita por su hija adoptiva, Christina Crawford. Considerada como la décima estrella femenina de todos los tiempos según el American Film Institute.

Joan Crawford falleció el 10 de mayo de 1977 en La ciudad de Nueva York a causa de un cáncer.

Su frase "El amor es fuego. Nunca se sabe si te va a calentar el corazón o a quemar la casa".
