Tyrone Edmund Power

Nació el 5 de mayo de 1914 en Cincinnati, Ohio, en el seno de una familia de actores de origen irlandés. Su padre fue Frederick Tyrone Power que trabajó en el teatro y en el cine mudo.

Hace su debut en el escenario en 1931 y en el cine en 1932. Fue el protagonista de la gran producción LLoyds de Londres (H. King, 1936) y de una comedia Amor y periodismo (T. Garnett, 1937). Después trabaja en In Old Chicago (1938) Alexander's Ragtime Band (id.) y Tierra de audaces (1939). Participa aún en siete películas con King como El cisne negro (1942), Captain From Castille (1947) o El príncipe de los zorros (The Prince of Foxes 1949), clásicos del género. 

Trabaja en El signo del Zorro, 1940; 
Sangre y arena, 1941 y con John Cromwell El hijo de la furia [Son of Fury], 1942. Destaca en papeles ambiguos como los que interpreta con Edmund Goulding (El filo de la navaja, 1946; El callejón de las almas perdidas, 1947; el mejor). Silly Wilder le hace encarnar a Alexander Vole en Testigo de cargo (1958). En los 50 trabaja en películas como El correo del infierno, H. Hathaway, 1951; Correo diplomático [Dipiomatic Courrier], id., 1952- El caballero del Mississippi, R. Maté, 1953; Eddy Duchin, G. Sidney, 1956).

 

Falleció el 15 de noviembre de 1958 por una crisis cardíaca durante el rodaje de Salomón y la reina de Saba (K. Vidor, 1959), fue sustituido por Yul Brynner.
